Having bridal portraits taken before your wedding is not necessary, but over the years, I've learned that it does relieve some stress and time on your wedding day.  With a bridal session, you'll have the opportunity to ensure that you love your hair and makeup, are satisfied with the style of your bouquet, get more comfortable with your wedding venue, and finalize your "bridal look." With this 1-hour session, we will capture you and your wardrobe and accessory details, giving us more time on your wedding day to focus on the other important details of your big day.

the experience

01.

A bridal portrait session is a fairly old and specifically Southern tradition that began in Europe. The bride schedules a portrait session focusing solely on herself which takes place well before the wedding day. She is photographed dressed in her wedding dress and She might also have her hair and makeup done by the same person she is planning on using for her wedding day. The resulting bridal photos are kept secret, and in many cases a large print from the session is later displayed at the wedding reception.

THE TRADITION OF THE BRIDAL PORTRAIT                                     SESSION

I suggest your bridal portraits be taken at your venue so your photos feel like they were taken on your wedding day. In my experience, most venues will give you access to the space on a weekday when there are not events scheduled.

The best time to take bridal portraits is 4-6 weeks before your wedding. With this timeline, I can get photos back to you for wedding day use and allows ample time to make any hair, makeup, or accessory changes, if needed.

Bridal portraits are a dry-run for the big day; they’re a wedding-day stress reducer, a reassuring run-through, and an excuse to wear your gown more than once. That’s why many brides favor this wedding tradition.

06. Lastly....

The most common timeframe for bridal portraits is roughly one to two months before the wedding. This is around when hair and makeup trials happen anyway, plus you’ve likely selected those wedding-day accessories like shoes and jewelry by then as well.

05. When do these photos typically take place?

If there’s a location you’ve been dreaming of, choose it. If you and your parents have a special childhood spot, such as docks along the lake, try that. Some brides also choose to have their portraits at their venue for consistency and sentiment.

04. Can we take the portraits at any location?

There is often limited time on the wedding day and the portraits can be rushed.  This allows you to slow down and enjoy you dress and bring some creativity to the shoot.

03. won't they look the same as my wedding day?

Many of your vendors come together to make these portraits happen, your venue, florist, hair and makeup artist, dress shop and photographer will all play a part.

02. who will be involved in the bridal session?

It is a perfect time to test out your bridal look and make any changes necessary.  It also takes away the stress of the wedding day and allows you to get perfect portraits.
